Blessing of the Sick - On Saturday, February 11 we will celebrate World Day of the Sick and the Memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes by offering a special Mass at 11 a.m.  We invite all who suffer in any way: spiritually, fiscally, mentally, physically or the elderly to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick during the Mass.  We remind you that to receive any Sacrament, consciously one must be in a state of grace.  Therefore, the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation will be provided prior to the Mass.  If there are any infirm parishioners who wish to attend the 11 a.m. Mass and require transportation, please contact the parish office and we will assist you.

Icon of Our Lady of Guadalupe - The Icon will be present at Saint Gabriel Church, beginning on Saturday, February 11 at the 5:30 p.m. Mass, and continuing on Sunday, February 12 at all the regular Sunday Masses.  There will be a Mass in honour of Our Lady of Guadalupe at 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 12 in Spanish and English, with a reception following in the parish centre.  On Monday, February 13 the Icon will be present at the 8 a.m. and 6: 30 p.m. Masses, and the Rosary will be prayed before the Icon in Polish at 6 p.m.  A Holy Hour will follow from 7-8 p.m. then we will gather in the Parish Centre for a video on Our Lady of Guadalupe.  On Tuesday, February 14 the Rosary will be prayed in English before the Icon at 8:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 9 a.m. with St. Gabriel School.  The Icon will also be present at the closing Mass at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, celebrated in Polish and English.

Knights of Columbus - Any gentlemen interested in information about the Knights and their parish and community initiatives may call Alex Furgal 905-335-0128 or Hugh MacDonald 905-332-4204.Catholic Women’s League - The next Meeting is Monday, February 20 at 6:30 p.m. Bring a friend for a Soup and Bun meal in preparation for Lent. There is no charge for the meal, but a donation would be appreciated for the Speaker and her cause – Development and Peace.  The next Euchre Night is this Monday, February 6.

Bingo Volunteers Needed - We are in need of parishioners to help at the Friday night, 9:45 p.m. bingo, once a month.  If we have a few people sign up, it would mean that you would only have to help out once every few months.  If you are able to volunteer, please call Rita Bradbury at 905-332-3062 or Gabriel at 905-315-7620.

The Religious Articles/Bookstore - is located in the hallway leading to the Parish Centre. We sell Catholic DVDs, sacramentals, prayer books, gifts, jewelry, Bibles, bestsellers.  We have an assortment of rosaries, Marian rosary holders, musical holy water fonts, pictures, votive candles, Marian statuary, etc. Items for children, teens and adults. Selection is constantly changing. Open after every Sun. Mass.

Apostleship of the Holy Eucharist is an association of people dedicated to (i) Belief in the True presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist; (ii) Intercessory prayer for the renewal and restoration of Faith {the Holy Hour}; (iii) Personal faith renewal; and (iv) Promotion of belief in and devotion to the True presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist.  All are welcome to meet before the Blessed Sacrament every Thursday evening after Mass for an hour of prayer.

Seminary Education Collection - “Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above.” (James 1:17)  The annual Diocesan collection in support of the seminarians of the Diocese of Hamilton takes place this weekend. A seminarian is someone who is studying and preparing to be a priest. Please remember in your prayers the 16 seminarians who are preparing for priestly service in the Diocese of Hamilton. World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life - On this Sunday, February 5, Catholics throughout the world are invited to celebrate the World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life. We give thanks to God for the men and women who live out their baptismal commitment by professing the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience. We pray for those who have dedicated their lives to God through these vows, especially for those living and serving in the Diocese of Hamilton. We also pray for the men and women from the Diocese who are currently in formation in religious communities. St. John’s Parish Breakfast - Sunday, February 12th, after the 9 and 11 a.m. Masses.  Cost is $7.00 for adults; children $3.00 (5 to 12); 4 and under eat free.  Tickets sold at the door.  Menu: eggs, sausages,  bacon, beans, pancakes, hash brown potatoes, coffee, tea, juice.

ACT Retreat Day - The Association of Christian Therapists is hosting its 24th annual ACT Retreat Day at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 715 Centre Rd., Waterdown, at 9:00 on Saturday, February 11th, with closing Mass at 5:00, celebrated by Fr. Ted Slaman. This year’s theme is God Wants to Use You to Do the Impossible with guest speaker Dr. Anthony Campo M.D. This very spiritual day filled with prayer, reflection and personal growth is open to healthcare professionals as well as the general public. Diocesan Wedding Anniversary Mass - On Sunday, September 9, 2012, Bishop Douglas Crosby will celebrate a Diocesan Wedding Anniversary Mass at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Hamilton at 2:00 p.m. for couples married 25, 40, 50, 60 or more years in the year 2012.  (Space allows room for Anniversary couples only - those married 60 years or more may bring 1 guest).  To participate in the celebration, please refer to the poster on the bulletin board in the narthex of the church.

The Passion of Our Lord Youth Dramatization - Each Good Friday, parish youth enact Christ’s final journey with His cross at the 11 a.m. Liturgy.  If you are interested in being a part of this moving experience please contact Mrs. K. By email or phone.

The Parish Class for Preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist began on Sunday, January 15, 2012 for students who attend public/private school and are ready for these Sacraments.  Please call as soon as possible to enroll your child.  First Communion for the Parish Class is Sunday, April 15.

Attention Parents of Past Parish Classes for Sacramental Prep.  If you have not received your child’s Confirmation or First Communion certificate, please call Joanne to arrange to pick up.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word - Children’s Liturgy is offered at the 11 a.m. throughout the year.  New Liturgists are welcomed and training and program supplies are provided.  If you are interested in joining our team of Liturgists, please call Joanne.
